SCAD Savannah seeks a full-time professor of art history with advanced knowledge of Pre-Columbian, modern and contemporary, or feminist and gender studies art history to provide students with the expertise to investigate and explain the complex relationships between context and cultural production.
As a professor of art history, you will join the SCAD team of more than 40 highly credentialed art history professors from diverse backgrounds to motivate students to think creatively and critically in an active and engaging learning environment. In art history coursework, you will help students gain a curiosity for creative inquiry, invention, critical thinking, and visual analysis. You will also guide students as they navigate historical and contemporary expressive practices through critical encounters with art, artifacts, and other forms of cultural production.
As a SCAD professor, you will be required to meet expectations of planning and preparing for teaching, including maintaining an active and engaged classroom environment, as well as syllabus design, submission, and approval; holding office hours and midterm grade reviews; providing extra help sessions, extended-learning opportunities, and field trips; and conducting course/program level assessments. You will provide feedback to students to aid in their academic growth.
As an art history professor, you will motivate students to think creatively and critically in an active and engaging learning environment. In art history coursework, you will help students gain a curiosity for creative inquiry, invention, critical thinking, and visual analysis. You will also guide students as they navigate historical and contemporary expressive practices through critical encounters with art, artifacts, and other forms of cultural production.
The position entails modeling professionalism, fulfilling grading and academic documentation requirements, recording attendance, following academic policies and regulations, and supporting academic assessment and institutional effectiveness efforts. Other responsibilities include attending on-ground and virtual events such as faculty meetings, admission events, curriculum assessment and development, institutional effectiveness and accreditation support, and any other events, exhibitions, or publicity assignments. Additional duties may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: REQUIREMENTS:
• PhD in the discipline or in a relevant field.
• Academic and professional credentials to teach in a certain discipline.
• Teaching experience at the collegiate level preferred.
• Experience in or knowledge of related professions.
