Baptist Health Sciences University seeks a dynamic, transformative leader to serve as University Provost/ Vice President of Academic Affairs. Applications and nominations are invited. Located in the heart of downtown Memphis, Baptist Health Sciences University is an urban campus with a multi-facility footprint of approximately 400,000 square feet spanning 21 acres in the heart of the Memphis Medical District. This is an exciting opportunity for an academic leader who is passionate about community-based care and developing the next generation of health sciences professionals.

Building on the legacy of education since 1912, Baptist Health Sciences University (formerly known as Baptist College of Health Sciences) is a private institution that seeks to attract a diverse student population who share a commitment to Christian values and ethics, academic excellence, and lifelong professional development. The University offers 14 majors in nursing and allied health, including undergraduate and graduate degrees and a doctorate of nursing practice; and has over 700 students across pre-clinical and clinical years, with over 73 full-time and affiliated faculty.

The University is amidst aggressive efforts to become one of the Mid-South region's premier institutions for health sciences and medicine. The University enrolls its first class of medical students at the newly formed Baptist University College of Osteopathic Medicine in the fall of 2024. In partnership with Baptist Memorial Health Care, Baptist Health Sciences University extends the learning environment beyond the classroom to include experiences found in healthcare settings throughout the Mid-South.

Reporting to the Baptist Health Sciences University President, the Provost is responsible for strategic leadership of the academic activities, education and research, and student success. Then next Provost will express a passion for the University's mission and understand the important role the University plays in Memphis and the region. Qualified candidates will possess a terminal degree of Ed.D., D.N.P., Ph.D., D.O., M.D., or the equivalent in a field appropriate to Baptist Health Sciences and be able to demonstrate expertise in the individual's discipline in higher education. The successful candidate should align with the faith mission of the organization, and have experience developing interprofessional initiatives, along with the personal characteristics and values needed to promote, foster, and facilitate the trust of colleagues and the broader University faculty. A firm understanding of emerging needs and trends in health sciences higher education to advance strategic priorities will be required. Exceptional and steady leadership along with communication and execution skills are essential for success, as is the ability to foster a culture of shared governance, and a record of impact along multiple dimensions of justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and access.
