The NYU School of Professional Studies seeks an Academic Director and Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor of Emerging Technology in the Division of Applied Undergraduate Studies (DAUS).
The Academic Director oversees the associate and bachelor degrees in DAUS. Reporting to the Associate Dean of DAUS, the Academic Director will lead the faculty and draw support from the field to advance the program's academic mission. This individual will work closely with the Assistant Dean to implement the program goals and vision and increase the program profile and visibility.
In this role, the director is responsible for, but not limited to, the following expectations.
- Leading and guiding adjunct faculty to achieve the program's academic goals and objectives successfully.
- Building and sustaining relationships with professionals and program graduates to grow program reputation and student opportunity.
- Design and update curricula to maintain course and program relevance and quality.
- Proficiency in teaching and learning; experience working with professional studies programs is desired.
- Recruiting and mentoring adjunct faculty to encourage effective teaching and research.
In addition to the administration responsibilities, the Academic Director will also actively teach within DAUS. This is a nine-month faculty appointment with a two-year renewable contract; the Academic Director role is a concurrent twelve-month administrative appointment. The preferred focus is in the real-world application of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and large language models, blockchain, extended reality, cybersecurity, data science, and quantum computing. This position includes teaching, scholarly work/creative production, and service expectations along with the responsibility to take an active role in curriculum development and delivery, building industry partnerships, advising students, and support in the development of offerings related to emerging technologies and their application.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $85,000 - $135,000. The range for the annual administrative stipend is $20,000 - $30,000. The Division of Applied Undergraduate Studies within NYU SPS focuses on providing career-focused, application-oriented undergraduate programs delivering practical knowledge and skills that prepare students for success in their chosen careers. The Division primarily serves transfer students and degree completers, working adults, military affiliated learners, and others looking to reskill or upskill for continued professional success. Uniquely at NYU, the Division offers associate’s degree options in business, information systems and management as well as bachelor’s degrees in leadership and management, information systems management, and social sciences, as well as apprenticeship degrees at the associate’s level, and online options for degree completion of associates and bachelor’s degrees.
The Division’s full-time faculty, more than 200 adjunct practitioner faculty members, and team of full-time professional advisers prepare approximately 670 matriculated undergraduate students to become innovative leaders in their chosen careers.

QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will possess advanced academic and professional credentials (Ph.D., or comparable advanced terminal degree) in one or more domains of emergent technology, preferably with a focus on the application of these technologies in real-world settings. The successful candidate will preferably have work experience in a technology-related field. They will be intimately familiar with the ways technology accelerates the pace of change in the economy and society, digital disruption, technology and innovation, and the ethical dimensions of new and disruptive technologies. They will have at least three years of academic experience and effectiveness in higher education as well as experience working with or teaching diverse student populations.
