Dedman College is accepting the following applications for tenured, and tenured track positions to begin Spring/Fall 2019:


Prothro Chair Endowed Chair in Biology – Tenured (Position No. 00053683)

Education:  PhD, MD/PhD or MD degree

Application Due Date:  November 1, 2018

Specialization:  Distinguished record in biological or biomedical research that includes a history of significant external support, a strong publication record, and demonstrated commitment to student training.  Preference will be given to individuals with potential to interact with current faculty in the areas of aging, cancer biology, epigenetics, infectious diseases, neurobiology, or structural biochemistry.


Assistant Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology – Tenure Track (Position No. 00006058)

Education: Ph.D. in Biology

Application Due Date: Review began September 15, 2018*

Specialization:  Aging, cancer biology, developmental biology, epigenetics, neurobiology, biochemistry or emerging infectious diseases is preferred.


Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Theoretical Chemistry – Open Rank (Position No. 00051413)

Education: Ph.D. in Theoretical Chemistry or related discipline

Specialization: Competence in teaching Theoretical/Quantum Chemistry at the graduate levels is mandatory; ii) must demonstrate an outstanding record of research and external funding (Associate/Full Professor level), or will establish a high impact, fundable research program (Assistant Professor level) complementing the current research in Theoretical Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry; iii) will strongly benefit from the excellent high performance computing facilities available on the SMU campus.


Matthews Chair in Earth Sciences – Tenured (Position No. 50601)

Education:  Ph.D. at time of appointment

Application Due Date:  January 15, 2019*

Specialization: Seeking mid-career applicants with active research programs in the area of the dynamics of fluid-rock interaction. The cross-disciplinary nature of fluid-rock interaction is such that the successful candidate may apply techniques from petrology, hydrology, general geochemistry, isotope geochemistry, or economic geology. The successful applicant will exhibit the ability to (1) maintain programs with external funds obtained from a diverse portfolio of funding agencies, (2) oversee professional staff, and (3) mentor students at both the undergraduate and graduate level.


Assistant Professor of History of China – Tenure Track (Position No. 00005741)

Education:  Ph.D. required by August 19. 2020

Application Due date:  Review date October 26, 2018*

Specialization:  Research and teaching interests may complement areas of existing departmental strength in social, cultural, and political history; borderlands; comparative and transnational history; and digital humanities.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach broad surveys in Chinese and East Asian history, thematic courses or regional surveys grounded in his or her areas of expertise, and appropriate classes in our graduate program



Assistant Professor of Physics– Tenure Track (Position No. 00006318) via

Education:  Ph.D. in Physics

Application Due Date:  November 15, 2017*

Specialization: Current research in the Department of Physics at SMU is concentrated in the field of particle physics. Current experimental programs include ATLAS at the LHC, NOvA at Fermilab, SuperCDMS and DESI. The theory program is concentrated on the LHC related topics. The department expects an increased interest in astrophysics and astronomy. The successful candidate is expected to develop a vigorous research program, supervise graduate students, and teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.


Assistant Professor of Psychology (Cognitive Science & Health Psychology) – Tenure Track (Position No. 00052830)

Education: Ph.D. in related Psychology field

Specialization: Topics of interest include: (1) psychobiology of health and/or illness; (2) health intervention or prevention research; (3) health risk behaviors; and (4) minority health and health disparities.


Assistant Professor of Sociology – Tenure Track (Position No. 00050341)

Education: Ph.D. in Sociology

Specialization:  primary research and teaching interests in economic sociology and/or the organization of work. Associated or supplemental emphasis in global/international economic dynamics or financialization are of interest, but not required.
