Assistant Manager of Operations and Student Docents

As the assistant manager you will be responsible for the hiring process of new staff docents, coordinating student schedules, ensuring coverage for galleries, and guaranteeing the quality of the guest interactions. This position is also responsible for managing the daily use of the academic corridor as well as tracking and scheduling museum tours. In this position you will manage reservations for faculty and staff tours and proactively respond to guest inquiries and messages, acting as a role model to students by demonstrating strong customer service behavior. You will be responsible for establishing expectations and standards of behavior for student employee roles and maintaining the functionality and cleanliness of the building through rounds and security checks.

As the assistant manager of visitor and museum operations, you will be responsible for opening and closing museum galleries, monitoring conditions and facility systems, addressing visitor and faculty needs, coordinating immediate housekeeping and security needs, and initiating work orders in addition to ensuring staffing and operations of the Gutstein Gallery. It is crucial that you positively engage visitors about the museum’s collections, exhibitions, and programs, maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues in other departments, and provide support to the manager of museum visitation and programming.

Minimum Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree; at least one year of experience; combination of education and experience
  • Must possess high organization, communication, time management, and interpersonal skills
  • Must pay close attention to detail and have the ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Must possess good judgement and demonstrate ability to meet timelines
  • Should be able to work well with minimal supervision and with others

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
