Dean of Business

Michigan State University (MSU) seeks a dynamic, collaborative, and forward-looking leader to serve as the next dean of its internationally renowned Broad College of Business (Broad). The dean will join at an opportune time to partner with new university leadership and engage students, faculty, staff, alums, and other key constituents in helping the college reach new heights by further enhancing our brand, the reputation of our people, and the rankings of our programs.

The Broad College of Business, named after alumnus and distinguished business leader Eli Broad, is one of the largest of 17 degree-granting colleges at Michigan State with approximately 4,900 students across six academic units - Accounting and Information Systems, Finance, Management, Marketing, Supply Chain Management, and the School of Hospitality Business. Its world-class faculty delivers academic rigor in the classroom and its leading-edge scholarship brings fresh perspectives to business leadership and best practices. With the No.1 ranked Supply Chain Management program, the No.3 ranked Production/Operations Management program and most other programs in the top 25, the college is a hub for top-ranked undergraduate and graduate programs that educate and nourish the next generation of business leaders. The Broad College is home to the Minskoff Pavilion, a 100,000-square-foot facility that provides state-of-the-art instruction, learning, and career development spaces for business students.

Michigan State is the nation's premier land-grant university and one of the top research universities in the world. As a member of both the Associate of American Universities (AAU) and the Big Ten Academic Alliance, MSU is nationally recognized for its academic excellence, impactful research, and global outreach. It is also known for its Spartan grit and resilience. MSU is stronger because of its community, which includes more than 51,000 students, 5,600 faculty and staff, and a network over half a million living alums who are extremely loyal supporters and cheerleaders for the university. The dean will join MSU and its new leadership to build upon its existing strengths and propel it to new heights.

The ideal candidate must have a demonstrated record of fundraising, strategic leadership in higher education, and the skills required to oversee a large, complex college. The person should have excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively and build meaningful relationships across multiple constituencies. They should be a leading scholar and must possess a terminal degree and academic credentials that merit appointment with tenure at the rank of professor in one of the college's departments.

The dean of Michigan State's Broad College of Business will be presented with the opportunity to achieve the following professional and personal accomplishments:

  • Build on the college's global footprint and on cross-unit and cross-college collaborations to tackle the world's most pressing problems;

  • Continue to assemble, develop, and be supported by an exceptional team of staff professionals all committed to the success of the college;

  • Ensure the recruitment, development, and placement of outstanding and motivated students;

  • Oversee a diverse and professionally challenging portfolio of business education disciplines - and be at the forefront of integrating new business education strategies and delivery platforms into the existing portfolio of programs;

  • Participate in the global discourse on business education and engage with the network of worldwide alums and corporate partners;

  • Continue to build strong working relationships with the alums network to ensure the next generation of students has the skillsets needed to be successful as they move into the business world.
