Data Services Specialist - Library (Onsite)
The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) is the central coordinating and support organization for a highly regarded cluster of seven independent colleges known as The Claremont Colleges. TCCS with a staff of 300, provides exceptional shared services to 9,000 students, and almost 3,600 faculty and staff. TCCS staff work in both student-facing services as well as administrative and operational services. Our numerous departments are located throughout The Claremont Colleges campus in the beautiful city of Claremont, California.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Claremont Colleges Services seeks an innovative, proactive, and engaging professional for the position of Data Services Specialist for The Claremont Colleges Library.
This position at The Claremont Colleges Library ("Library") will provide data services and support for research and instruction across disciplines and institutions at The Claremont Colleges, as well as provide in-house support for digital curation of cultural heritage materials. The Claremont Colleges are comprised of five undergraduate and two graduate institutions.
This library-based position will assist faculty and students as they use data and digital materials to develop and execute classroom assignments and research projects. This role provides this support through individual consultations, workshops, and program development for the Data and Digital Scholarship Services at the Library. As part of the division of Distinctive Collections and Digital Scholarship, this role will also contribute to such projects as online exhibits and data management workflows for campus researchers and librarians while keeping abreast of the latest technologies and approaches in this rapidly changing area. The Data Services Specialist will also be available to library staff colleagues for collaborations in support of subject-based research and teaching involving the use of data.
Priority Deadline : The deadline for first consideration is February 1, 2024.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Training : You have some college-level coursework at an accredited institution. A bachelor's degree is preferred.
Experience : You have at least one year of experience in:

Work Schedule : The regular hours for this full-time position are 40 hours scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday for 12 months annually. May be required to work holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours. Regular hours may vary due to the needs of the organization or business unit.
Union : This position is included in the library employee bargaining unit represented by the California Federation of Teachers (CFT). The employee in this position will be bound by any collective bargaining agreement between CFT and TCCS and may be responsible for paying applicable union dues.
COMPENSATION
Pay : The pay rate for this position is $23.40 to 35.00 per hour.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Promotes and facilitates innovation in pedagogical and research applications of data science and analytical approaches.
- Provides appropriate programming and ongoing support to build relationships among faculty and staff collaborators across the seven institutions of the consortium.
- Assists in the preparation and delivery of instruction and consultation for faculty, staff, and students on using appropriate information and technology resources in academic work.
- Supports faculty on the design and execution of data-centered course assignments and research projects.
- Provides administrative support for cloud-based digital platforms to the campus community.
- Actively participates in campus, statewide, and national data science and digital scholarship events on behalf of the library and towards their own professional development.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Training : You have some college-level coursework at an accredited institution. A bachelor's degree is preferred.
Experience : You have at least one year of experience in:
- providing instructional technology consulting, outreach, teaching, and/or support, and
- computer programming as used for data science, data structuring, programming environments (command-line), and version control, and
- using web content management tools and/or in web development.
Competencies :
- Ability and willingness to assist people with a range of skills in quantitative analysis, statistics, and geospatial tools.
- Basic programming skills in either Python or R.
- Basic data analysis skills, and strong skills with spreadsheets.
- Ability to use data visualization methods and tools.
- Advanced and creative oral and written communication skills in English.
- Advanced and creative problem-solving skills.
- Work effectively in both independent and team environments.
- Able to set priorities and manage multiple tasks.
