The Department of Biomedical Engineering and Mechanics (BEAM) at Virginia Tech invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track instructor position to begin in August 2024. The initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of continuation dependent upon performance.
Duties will primarily include teaching undergraduate bioinstrumentation laboratory courses in biomedical engineering. Additional opportunities are to teach other undergraduate courses in biomedical engineering based on area of technical expertise and department need. We are seeking candidates motivated to contribute to a collegial, interdisciplinary community with a strong tradition of high-quality teaching, student engagement, and mentoring. BEAM is an interdisciplinary department with faculty having broad interests spanning engineering, science, mathematics, and medicine. Offering BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees in biomedical engineering and engineering mechanics, BEAM currently has 50 faculty members and is home to over 200 undergraduate and 150 graduate students. BEAM’s graduate Biomedical Engineering (BME) program is ranked #38 by US News & World Report. Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will have an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering or related discipline by date of hire, with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours of courses related to biomedical engineering. Technical experience with bioinstrumentation, instrumentation, or electrical circuit design.
Preferred Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or related discipline. Teaching experience in a university or college, especially in laboratory courses or courses involving biomedical engineering. Knowledge of biomedical sensors and computer-aided design.
