Position Summary:
The ADVANCE Program Director oversees National Science Foundation funded programs related to intersectional gender equity for faculty at CMU. The ADVANCE Program Director administers all aspects of the grant-funded program, including activities and initiatives associated with the grant, such as scheduling speakers, organizing workshops, or working with relevant departments to update policies and forms. This individual is responsible for analyzing and summarizing existing and anticipated program data. This position is also responsible for preparing reports for dissemination and ensuring reports are in line with grant and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with diversity, equity, and inclusion theory, research, and best practices.
Experience with qualitative or quantitative research design, implementation, and analyses in a social science or related discipline.
Experience with Institutional Review Board (IRB) processes and documentation.
Demonstrated commitment to principles of diversity, equity, and inclusivity.
Ability to work with existing data to extract themes (e.g., through coding or thematic analysis) and summarize program outcomes to date.
Successful dissemination of research, such as through presentations or publications.
Ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, advisory board members, program facilitators and participants, and university administrators.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Proven ability to work independently and define goals and timetables in a self-directed manner.
Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
Ability to work within budgets and maintain financial integrity.
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate in a field related to the work of the ADVANCE program.
Experience with qualitative research design, implementation, and analysis (e.g., interviews, focus groups).
Experience with quantitative research design, implementation, and analysis (e.g., survey design, statistical analysis), as well as measurement (e.g., factor analysis).
Evidence of publishing research in peer-reviewed journals.
Demonstrated effective leadership in program development, coordination, and implementation.
Demonstrated understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for differences among students, staff, and faculty including academic background, age, cultural background, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, military status, race, religion, sexual orientation, dietary restrictions, and socio-economic status of students, staff, and faculty.
Knowledge of statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R), survey platforms (e.g., Qualtrics), and data/reporting tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Interest in higher education context and faculty experiences and career pathways (e.g., promotion and tenure).
Duties & Responsibilities:
Oversees resources and budget planning for the CMU ADVANCE program.
Oversees the daily operation of the CMU ADVANCE program.
Oversees and implements the programmatic components of the CMU ADVANCE program.
Organizes and coordinates CMU ADVANCE events.
Identifies and contacts prospective speakers for seminars and workshops.
Coordinates CMU ADVANCE activities with related offices on campus.
Establishes connections to identify resources available to faculty within the university and throughout the community.
Prepares policy materials for dissemination based on content analysis and literature review according to best practices.
Promotes awareness of the CMU ADVANCE program within the university and to external audiences.
Communicates directly with current and prospective faculty.
Provides content to University Communications and oversees social media interns and website content for the program.
Engages with the network of ADVANCE institutions to stay up to date on best practices and disseminates findings within the network and to the broader research literature.
Prepares annual and final reports as requested by the principal investigators.
Analyzes quantitative and qualitative research data and summarize findings for reports, presentations, and publications.
Assists with maintaining the Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocol documentation and compliance.
Consults with and provides regular updates to the program's principal investigators and administration.
Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.
