Dean of Charlton College of Business

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (UMass Dartmouth), a thriving public research university and critical engine of social mobility, invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the Charlton College of Business (CCB). The next Dean will join the College at an exciting moment of growth and momentum. With strong, forward-thinking leadership in recent years and a number of new programs and initiatives underway, the AACSB-accredited College is poised to refine and differentiate its position as a leader in business education. According to US News & World Report’s 2024 rankings, Charlton ranks as the 135th Best Undergraduate Business Program out of 523 qualifying U.S. institutions, placing CCB among the top 25% of undergraduate business programs in the U.S.—a 60-spot rise since 2020.

The next Dean will have the opportunity to build upon a solid infrastructure and continue to sharpen the College’s strategic focus by capitalizing on its current strengths and identifying new areas for growth and innovation. The Dean will ensure that CCB remains student-centered, is welcoming and inclusive, continues the University’s commitment to serving the public interest, and values all expressions of diversity. The Dean will ensure that the College continues to prioritize academic rigor, sustain vigorous shared governance, and support students and alumni in their journeys to become capable professionals and engaged citizens. Finally, and importantly, the Dean will promote the scholarship and teaching of the College’s renowned faculty on the national stage.

Reporting to Provost Balasubramanian and serving as a cooperative and creative thought partner on his Deans’ Council, the next Dean will work in concert with university leadership to advance the strategic objectives of the College. The Dean will oversee a College comprising approximately 60 faculty (44 full-time and 16 part-time faculty) and 12 full-time staff, with an annual budget of approximately $11.5M. The Dean works closely with the College leadership team composed of an Associate Dean, an Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Programs, and an Assistant Dean of Graduate Programs.
