Vice President for Communications

Franklin & Marshall College (F&M) invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for Communications.

Founded in 1787, Franklin & Marshall is a highly selective private liberal arts college that prizes its strong campus community centered on small classes and faculty-student research. It is located in Lancaster, PA, a diverse and progressive metropolitan area with a lively arts culture, historic downtown, and easy access to Philadelphia, Baltimore, New York City, and Washington, DC. The College’s mission is to help students develop their greatness – including their intellectual, creative, and leadership talents -- so that they may live fulfilling lives and contribute meaningfully to their occupations, their communities, and their world. F&M is proud of its rigorous academic program; of its nationally recognized talent strategy to build a dynamic, diverse student body; of its faculty-led College House system, which blends residential community, intellectual exploration and student self-governance; and of its vibrant student athlete experience. F&M faculty are exceptional teachers and active scholars and boast numerous achievements in knowledge creation. The College enrolls about 2,350 students from throughout the U.S. and around the world. Its operating budget for fiscal year 2018 is balanced with $127 million in revenues and expenses, and its total endowment is valued at $377 million.

Reporting directly to President Barbara Altmann, and overseeing a team of 15, the next Vice President for Communications at Franklin & Marshall will serve on the senior leadership team and work across all divisions of the College. S/he will be a valued participant in high-level strategy conversations, and will ensure that a Communications perspective is considered for all important policy and strategy discussions and announcements. This fall, F&M is excited to launch the public phase of the most ambitious comprehensive campaign in the College’s history, and the VP for Communications will continue to develop and implement the corresponding communications and marketing strategy.

The ideal candidate will be an innovative thinker who is able to identify fresh communications and marketing opportunities, with the goal of accelerating F&M’s rise as a top national liberal arts college. S/he will work closely with all leaders of the College to help establish strategies that will effectively take their units to new heights, and provide the communications and marketing support they need to move major initiatives forward. This is an exciting time to join a talented and engaged learning community that has great momentum and is poised to continue on its clear, upward trajectory.
