Dean, College of Health Sciences

Milledgeville, GA

Georgia College & State University (Georgia College) seeks a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as its next Dean of the College of Health Sciences (CoHS). One of the youngest and fastest growing colleges on campus, CoHS has been at the forefront in workforce development for the state of Georgia, serving both its rural and urban communities. It is a leader in developing high-quality, in-demand programs across the spectrum of health professions and nursing. As its successful dean retires, CoHS is well positioned to build on its legacy of excellence and enhance its distinctiveness as an exceptional health sciences college within a prominent liberal arts university.

Located in historic Milledgeville and a member of the University System of Georgia, Georgia College is the state’s designated public liberal arts university, offering undergraduate and graduate programs of study to nearly 7,000 students who are motivated to serve the public good. The College of Health Sciences enrolls more than 1,500 students in programs across health and human performance, nursing, and creative art therapies. Students in CoHS develop an understanding of the diverse and complex issues facing health professionals within a rapidly changing healthcare system. Faculty and staff within the CoHS have been proactive in meeting the workforce needs of the state, and there are abundant opportunities to enhance partnerships for clinical care, public health, and student internships, as well as to increase external funding. The Dean will build on this momentum and set a course for the College’s future direction to ensure programs are relevant, transformative, viable, and aligned with the University’s mission.

The Dean is the principal academic and administrative officer for the CoHS and reports to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. The successful candidate will possess a record of distinguished teaching and scholarship, with experience in academic leadership and resource development. The Dean will have a firm grasp on the emerging challenges to health in differing communities, particularly in underserved areas, and opportunities to align academic programs to workforce demands. The Dean must have a broad view of academic and teaching excellence that recognizes the contribution of all the departments within the College and a passion for working with and mentoring students.
