Tenure Track Faculty Position: Open Rank - UCLA Institute for Society and Genetics and UCLA Institute for Precision Health

The UCLA Institute for Society and Genetics (ISG; http://socgen.ucla.edu/) and UCLA Institute for Precision Health (IPH; https://www.uclahealth.org/precision-health/about) invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position. The ideal candidate will have a strong, emerging record of an innovative and productive research program in the area of Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications (ELSI) of genetics and genomics, particularly as it relates to genomic medicine and precision health. ISG and IPH together seek to expand their research profile in this area with this hire. Preference will be given to candidates with bioethics training, whose research is in an area complementary to the current expertise of ISG and IPH faculty, who show exemplary experience in crossing lines between social and biological science, or working successfully and collaboratively across those lines, or who demonstrate research that has clear appeal beyond a specialized audience of experts. Important aspects of this position include playing a role in building the new genetic counseling graduate program housed within the medical school, and contributing to ISG's rapidly growing Human Biology and Society undergraduate major and minor. Research, teaching, and expertise at the intersection of bioethics and genomics are essential features of any successful candidate, but we are also interested in enhancing and expanding our capacities in disability studies, reproductive politics, community engagement, and patient advocacy through this hire. We are seeking to fill this tenure-track position with a start date of July 2019. The position is open to all ranks, with a preference for candidates at the Assistant Professor level. This position is split between the Institute for Society and Genetics in the College of Letters and Science and the Institute for Precision Health in the David Geffen School of Medicine.

Candidates must hold an M.D., J.D. or a Ph.D. in anthropology, sociology, STS, history, law, religion, philosophy, human genetics, biology, public health, or a related field in the biological, social, or human sciences by the time of appointment. Candidates should demonstrate potential for or evidence of scholarly impact through publications, excellence in teaching, and ability to obtain external funding, consistent with career stage. Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV with publication list, and three letters of recommendation. In addition, please include statements describing research and teaching programs, and planned or existing contributions to diversity, mentoring and the improvement of workplace climates for everyone. All candidates on the short-list will be invited to UCLA to participate in a symposium and interviews [anticipated Feb 7-8, 2019].
