Full-Time

The Nuclear Engineering Program at the University of Massachusetts Lowell is seeking an outstanding individual for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning in Spring or Fall 2019. The ideal candidate must have the Ph.D. degree in Engineering related to the Nuclear Science and Engineering discipline by the time of the effective date of appointment. The candidate will contribute to our undergraduate and graduate teaching programs and enhance the diversity and excellence of the academic community through a combination of research, teaching and service.

Nuclear science and engineering at Lowell has a long history dating back to the 1960's with ABET accredited undergraduate programs in Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Health Physics. The nuclear science and engineering assets at UMass Lowell for teaching, training and research include a 1 MWt pool-type research reactor, Van De Graff for 5MV accelerator, several radiation detection laboratories, and high performance computing cluster facilities. In the last six years the nuclear science and engineering programs at UMass Lowell have grown significantly due to increase in student enrollments and to replace faculty retirements. A total of 18 tenured, tenure-track and lecturer faculty serve the nuclear science and engineering programs at UMass Lowell representing a vibrant mix of experience and recent hires. A successful candidate must have a commitment to develop and sustain an externally funded research program with opportunity to collaborate with faculty across disciplines.

The program is looking for a candidate with experience in, but not limited to, nuclear analytical techniques, nuclear fuel cycle, nuclear reactor physics, thermal hydraulics, radio-chemical engineering, nuclear systems instrumentation and controls, and nuclear detection. Research and teaching that would make use of the facilities in the UMass Lowell Radiation Laboratory, especially the 1 MW pool-type research reactor, is highly desirable.
