Vice President of Finance and Operations

As Vice President of Finance and Operations, reporting directly to the President, provides leadership and direction in the areas of budgeting, business policies and procedures, payroll, general accounting, contracts and grants, purchasing and cashiering, asset and risk management. In addition, is responsible for providing leadership and administrative oversight for planning and directing the College’s operations department. The VP of Finance and Operations ensures that business transactions and support services meet college short- and long-term goals and objectives. The VP of Finance and Operations will be expected to participate in the College’s Continuous Improvement process as well as be willing to be trained in interest-based (mutual-gains) bargaining techniques.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, accounting or finance.
  • Five (5) years of management/supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of accounting computing software.
  • Previous experience in a substantive role with a business and finance office, a similar office in a community college, or a similarly complex organization.
  • Experience with GAAP, governmental accounting, and federal regulations.
  • Leadership in a diverse environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve complex problems.
  • Effective communication and public relations skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with government agencies, business, and industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate, design, and implement efficient administrative structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish, direct, and integrate business and finance programs of a major public institution.
  • Experience with institutional and financial strategic planning and long-term forecasting.
  • Knowledge of the structure, operations, and requirements of federal, state and local financial regulatory and funding agencies.
  • Successful application of investment strategies and techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with electronic data processing.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in business administration, management, accounting, finance or a CPA.
  • Experience working with different structures of financial sources; i.e, state appropriations, capital campaign, millage tax, grants, etc.
  • Experience working with databases, specifically Microsoft SQL.
  • Familiarity with the Transact SQL language and ability to write simple SQL queries.
  • Experience working within a higher education Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, example: Jenzabar or Ellucian (Colleague).
  • Experience working in an environment that fosters and supports sustainability.
