Position Description

The Program: The Department of Physical Therapy invites applications for a full-time, 12-month faculty appointment to serve as the Chair of the Physical Therapy Department. Application reviews will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. The clinical rank for this position (i.e., clinical associate professor vs. clinical professor) is commensurate with experience and credentials.
The Department of Physical Therapy at Baylor University is home to a two-year hybrid DPT program, an orthopedic physical therapy residency, and a strong affiliation with the Exercise and Nutritional Sciences Ph.D. program in Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences from which Department faculty can recruit and advise graduate students for research and scholarly endeavors. We are seeking an innovative Chair to lead our growing Department in meeting its mission to advance societal health through innovative education, connection, leadership, and research in physical therapy. The Department of Physical Therapy is fully hybrid, with faculty and staff who live across the United States. The Chair may live and lead remotely, but preference will be given to a leader who is willing to relocate to Waco, TX or be within a ~300-mile radius and willing to regularly travel to Waco, TX for designated periods of time. The Chair reports directly to the Dean of the Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences.

Responsibilities: The Department Chair is responsible for leading the department's faculty, staff and students in accomplishing the department's mission, as well as facilitating the department's contribution to the overall mission of the College. Providing strong leadership for the Department, the Department Chair will demonstrate the capability to:
  • Represent the Department in a skilled manner within the Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences.
  • Manage the human, financial, and physical resources within the Department.
  • Advance the Department's research infrastructure.
  • Promote research opportunities for faculty and students.
  • Advocate for resources and support program development.
  • Promote a culturally aware and welcoming environment with a strong commitment to recruiting and retaining diverse faculty, staff, and students.
  • Oversee faculty and staff, including evaluations and professional development.
  • Enhance and develop community connections.
  • Lead fundraising initiatives and promote alumni development to meet current and future Department priorities.

The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $140,000.00 - $160,000.00.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certification, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs.

Qualifications
Required: An academic doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D., D.Sc., Ed.D.) in physical therapy or a related discipline, as well as an unrestricted PT license (e.g. MPT, DPT) is required. Applicants must have academic leadership experience, maintain a robust scholarly agenda, have contemporary teaching expertise in physical therapy or related areas, and actively serve in local, state, and/or national professional activities. The successful candidate will model a leadership philosophy consistent with the Department of Physical Therapy's vision and values, and Baylor University's Christian mission.

Preferred: Special consideration will be given to candidates with previous university-level leadership, mentorship, and teaching experience, especially within hybrid, online, or "flipped" educational formats. A strong background in research, including a record of publication and acquisition of grant funding is also desirable.
