Ohio University (OHIO) invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for its next vice president for research and creative activity (VPRCA). OHIO seeks an innovative, collaborative, and experienced leader to work with President Lori Stewart Gonzalez, the university's senior leadership team, the entire team within the Division of Research, research faculty, and other constituents across the university as OHIO is sharply focused on fulfilling its mission and supporting the southeastern Ohio Appalachian region while continuing to grow its research enterprise of nearly $52 million annually.
As the oldest public university in the state, Ohio University has long been a regional and state - and now, even online - leader in preparing students for successful careers. Ohio University's total enrollment is over 28,000 students across the state and online. About 20,000 of those students are undergraduate students studying at the residential campus in Athens - a quintessential college town that is nestled deep in the Appalachian foothills of beautiful southeast Ohio. Ohio University is home to more than 250 academic programs in a long list of fields across business, communications, healthcare, social sciences, the arts, and STEM. The university's focus is ensuring student success through access to real industry and research experiences at an affordable cost, which is why Ohio University is ranked the No. 1 Best Value public university in the state of Ohio, according to U.S. News & World Report .
Ohio University recently earned the prestigious Carnegie Research 1 classification . The next VPRCA will provide strategic leadership and vision for the Division of Research as the university enters an exciting new phase of continued growth of its research enterprise. The VPRCA will understand the transformative role that applied research, translational research, creative inquiry, and innovation can play in the lives of OHIO students and the broader region, building on the strong, current research agenda while also capitalizing on and growing a climate of innovation to explore research possibilities that do not yet exist at OHIO, opening up the university intellectually and inspiring the faculty and students to engage in creating a productive research environment. This will require the next VPRCA to engage in the optimization of the current research operation; prepare for growth and build capacity; capitalize on the strength of the current staff; and maintain a strong external focus, serving as an ambassador, collaborator, and spokesperson with key funding agencies, private foundations, government officials, corporations, and other organizations. The VPRCA must also wholeheartedly embrace the university's strategic priorities and ensure the research enterprise priorities are in close alignment.
OHIO's incoming VPRCA will be a forward-thinking, engaging, and transparent leader, ready to support a campus community that is eager to enhance the university's research enterprise in ways that will significantly bolster the university's future. The VPRCA will be a highly accomplished individual with a track record of successful, transparent, and collaborative leadership and possess the interpersonal, managerial, and communication skills necessary to enhance and operate an effective research and entrepreneurial enterprise. The next VPRCA will work productively and in partnership with internal and external colleagues and constituents. The VPRCA will have knowledge of and a deep commitment to research compliance and integrity and the practical experience to help translate research toward improving the greater societal good. The ideal candidate will demonstrate success as a distinguished scholar with a record of considerable competitive extramural funding; will be qualified to hold an appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure; and will have at least seven years of progressive responsibility in research administration.
All applications, nominations and inquiries are invited. Applications should include, as separate documents, a CV or resume and a letter of interest addressing the themes in the leadership profile .
