Dean of the College of Performing Arts
Chapman University
Orange, CA
Chapman University seeks a highly collaborative, supportive, creative, and strategic leader to serve as Dean of the College of Performing Arts (CoPA). CoPA is home to the Department of Theatre, the Department of Dance, and the Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music and includes a diverse portfolio of performance and learning venues. Reporting to Provost Norma Bouchard, the Dean will lead a talented team including 37 full-time faculty, 100 part-time faculty, and nearly 20 excellent administrative and production staff members.
The Dean of the College of Performing Arts will provide visionary and strategic leadership to assist the Departments as they continue to evolve to meet the needs and interests of today's students and prepare them to pursue their creative passions beyond Chapman, thereby advancing the artistic communities they join. The Dean will advance CoPA's visibility nationally, continue to attract and retain talented students and faculty, advocate internally and externally for a strong and tangible commitment to the inherent value of the performing arts and arts education, continue to build strategic curricular partnerships between CoPA and other schools of the University, and build and nurture bridges to and within the surrounding community.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong record of administrative leadership within academic performing arts, and the rank of full professor, with a record of excellent teaching, creative practice, and scholarship commensurate with an appointment as dean. Successful candidates will be highly collaborative, accessible to students, faculty, and staff, transparent and communicative, and knowledgeable about each of the academic and technical production areas represented within CoPA. The next Dean will be a creative and experienced leader with a commitment to supporting the mission, values, and strategic goals of Chapman University.
