Position Description

The Department of  Art and Design at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) invites applications for a Tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Academic Year) in Animation and/or Web/Interaction Design with the appointment starting in Fall 2024.

The Position

Responsibilities include teaching three hybrid/blended activity courses per semester in one or more of the following specializations: animation/motion graphics, web design and app design. Other duties include curriculum development, student advisement for Design majors, participation in developing department procedures and guidelines, involvement in student outcomes assessment, and committee service at the department, college and university level. Faculty will be expected to continue their creative work and or professional activities.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Applicants must have experience in teaching undergraduates from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
  • MFA in Animation/Motion Graphics and or Web/Interaction Design or related field, in hand by August 2023.
  • Minimum of one year college level teaching, including teaching assistant experience.
  • Ability to teach courses in the following areas: Introduction to Graphic Applications, Animation/Motion graphics, Web and App Design.
  • Proficiency on a Macintosh platform in the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Evidence of successful creative activity in one or more of the following areas: Animation/Motion Graphics and or Web/Interaction, App Design.   

Preferred Qualifications

  • Effective college level teaching experience (Non-teaching assistant).
  • Evidence of successful blended and or online instruction.
  • Professional activity in one or more the following areas: Animation/Motion graphics and or Web/Interaction and App.
  • Creative or professional work that demonstrates a commitment to diversity.

Art and Design Department

The Art and Design Department strives to give its students a rich and thorough arts education. Whether a student’s focus be Studio Art, Design, or Art History the faculty and staff are dedicated to helping students reach their goals. The department also offers five art minors: Art History, Studio, Design, Motion Graphics, and Crafts. The Art and Design department includes the University Art Gallery, which presents eight to ten exhibitions and related events throughout the academic year, and is a valuable resource to the department as well as to the University as a whole and to the surrounding community. Further amenities include working studios in ceramics, sculpture, painting and drawing as well as two Mac computer labs. The Art and Design Department welcomes a diverse student body and continues to cultivate an academically rigorous cross-disciplinary program that prepares students for professional work post graduation.

Additional Information

The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $5,405 to $11,994 per month (12 monthly payments per academic year); The anticipated hiring salary is $6,786 to $6,957. This position will be commensurate with experience and current CSUDH faculty salaries in the academic department/discipline. Faculty salaries are subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases. Summer research grants, moving expenses, start‐up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available.

Background Check
