Founded in 1890, Washington State University seeks to transform lives through education, research, community outreach, and service. The statewide institution operates as an integrated university system with a single accreditation. Over the past few decades WSU has grown from a single flagship campus in Pullman, WA, to an evolving system of interconnected campuses in the growing population centers of Everett, Spokane, Tri-Cities, and Vancouver. In 2018, Academic Outreach and Innovation was elevated as WSU's sixth campus (WSU Global Campus) formally led by a Chancellor, serving more than 4,000 students worldwide through online undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs. The WSU system is united by consistent branding, quality, and mission orientation, while continuing to provide appropriate levels of autonomy for each campus location. The University ranks 96th among top public schools and 178th among national universities by U.S. News and World Report .

The College of Education has three departments: Educational Leadership and Sport Management, Kinesiology and Educational Psychology, and Teaching and Learning. With the state of Washington becoming increasingly ethnically and racially diverse, it is imperative that the College of Education continues to invest in the intentional development of leaders of color to guide the K-12 education system. In addition, there will continue to be opportunities to support equity across areas such as race, gender, socioeconomic status, and gender identity alongside dedicated faculty and staff committed to this transformative change.

The College of Education has a powerful influence among scholars and educators locally and globally. In the last decade, the College's academic programs have seen a remarkable ascent, with nationally acclaimed programs such as its distinguished master's programs in sport management and special education strengthening its reputation. The College has emerged as a hub of cutting-edge scholarly inquiry through its flourishing research activities and programs, addressing essential topics like the use of technology in education and increasing youth interest in STEM , among other exciting lines of research . With its successful history as a long-time leader in education in the state, the college has also expanded its global footprint by providing overseas student teaching opportunities and fostering partnerships with international universities and school systems .
