Announcement is hereby made for a full-time Specialist I position in the office of Center for Innovative Pedagogy in Selden.

 

Suffolk County Community College is an open admissions institution committed to serving a diverse student population in a variety of degree and career programs.

 

This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the College.

 

Job Description:

The Specialist I will report to the College Director for the Center for Innovative Pedagogy. The position provides functional, technical and instructional expertise supporting Online Education, the eLearning Academy, the Blackboard Learning Management System, and end-user Help-Desk requests. The Specialist I will additionally collaborate with members of the Office of Instructional Technology and the Educational Technology Unit to support faculty and students engaged in online learning.   Responsibilities include: 

  • Collaborate with faculty to increase the use of multiple functions and features in the Blackboard Learning Management System. 
  • Develop and deliver current and new workshops and professional development training in groups or one-to one.
  • Provide hands-on applications of ADA accessibility compliance to faculty.
  • Support implementation of best practices for teaching in an online environment.
  • Create and edit multimedia content (i.e. videos, interactive eLearning activities and tutorials).
  • Assist faculty with the use of video editing software such as Camtasia, Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline, Adobe Premiere Pro, or similar programs.
  • Explore and adapt new technologies and software programs.
  • Share Office program (i.e. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel) expertise with interested members of the college community. 
  • Research and implement on-going student support services for online students.
  • Request Argos reports for NC-SARA compliance.
  • Review College website information regularly to ensure content reflects current information regarding online programs, faculty and student services, and online processes.   
  • Serve as student authentication and live-proctoring back-end administrator.
  • Create and monitor Blackboard Community organizations

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree required
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience in higher education or other educational setting
  • Possess an aptitude for technology, think analytically, and be easily adaptable to change
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to multitask and work in a team environment with a positive attitude
  • Experience with the Blackboard Learning Management System is a plus
  • Basic knowledge of HTML
  • Helpdesk experience preferred

The exact salary will be determined by prior experience and placement on the salary scale negotiated by the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College.
