Associate Dean of Academic Operations

The University of New England (UNE) and the College of Graduate and Professional Studies (UNE’s online college), is seeking an individual with the rare combination of business and academic knowledge and skills to be its inaugural Associate Dean of Academic Operations. The College of Graduate and Professional Studies (CGPS) has experienced unprecedented growth over the last eight years and is a progressive and innovative college, run with business-centered principals in an open-concept office space. CGPS is searching for an energetic, forward-thinking leader in the role of Associate Dean to participate as a member of the College’s leadership team and guide Academic Operations, which includes Academic Programs, Instructional Design, Enrollment, Student Support, Tactical Marketing, Assessment, and Policy and Accreditation. This is not a tenure track position.


The Associate Dean of Academic Operations in the College of Graduate and Professional Studies reports to the Dean and provides creative leadership in the promotion of excellence in graduate online programs while also collaborating with the CGPS Assistant Dean to ensure that fiscal and strategic goals are achieved. The Associate Dean of Academic Operations assumes responsibilities of the Dean as delegated and serves as the CEO in the absence of the Dean.


The Associate Dean will be responsible for academic integrity and strategy, operations, leadership, budget, collaboration, and more.


A terminal doctoral degree is required, as is progressive leadership experience in academic operations and undergraduate/graduate teaching or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired. Plus demonstrated experience motivating staff and leading teams in a dynamic environment; demonstrated experience managing complex interactions of academic programming needs and fiscal resources; a record of functioning as an effective collaborator; strong written and verbal communication skills; a strong ability to prioritize; strong computer skills (MS Office); and they must be willing and able to work on-site at the UNE Portland campus.
