Assistant Professor in Environmental Archaeology

The Department of Anthropology at the University of Chicago invites applications for an environmental archaeologist to join the faculty at the rank of tenure track Assistant Professor. The position is open with regard to world region and time period. 

We welcome applications from scholars whose work is grounded in social theory and speaks to questions of broad anthropological significance. We are particularly interested in scholars who can diversify our suite of laboratory methodologies, and who are doing innovative work in political ecology, environmental change and/or multi-species anthropology. Priority will be given to candidates who show potential to develop collaborations with the biological and/or physical sciences on campus. The successful candidate will teach in their areas of research, as well as on broader topics in environmental anthropology with relevance across the disciplines, and participate actively in the department’s and the University’s academic community.

Applicants should have the Ph.D. in hand by the time of appointment.  Applications should include: (1) a current curriculum vitae, including the names and contact information of at least three referees; (2) a cover letter that describes your research and teaching profile, as well as your professional plan for the next 3-5 year period; (3) a research statement addressing current research and future plans for research; (4) a teaching statement addressing teaching experience and philosophy; (5) one to two writing samples, such as dissertation chapters, journal articles, or book chapters.
