PLEASE NOTE: There are two positions available to serve students on the regional campuses. One position will be located on the Zanesville campus with responsibility for serving students on the Zanesville, Eastern (St. Clairsville) and Lancaster campuses. The other position will be located on the Southern campus with responsibility for serving students on the Southern (Ironton) and Chillicothe campuses.

 

Job Description

The regional campuses of Ohio University invites applicants for the position of Career Coach.

 

Regional Higher Education (RHE) consists of five regional campuses and two centers serving students throughout southeastern and portions of central Ohio with a comprised enrollment of more than 6,000 students. The Career Coach will provide career coaching, leadership coaching and internship guidance for students and alumni on the regional campuses of Ohio University. These positions will assist students with all aspects of career development including identifying majors, career goals, resume development, preparation for graduate/professional school, and employability skills. These positions will be responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with employers to identify experiential, networking and employment opportunities available for students.

 

Engage students in activities related to chosen career fields; identify, address and clarify the particular needs of each student. Lead students through leadership coaching; an innovative service, to assist students to learn to identify strengths, set goals, and articulate their accomplishments. Utilize technology and resources to guide students through the career and leadership development process. Assist students in leveraging the use of social media and other technology in their search strategy. Creating a network of alumni to connect students with internship and employment opportunities. Administer and interpret personality, interest, skills and values assessments.

 

Develop strategy for employer-related programming and outreach. Responsible for overall effectiveness of employer-related programming. Conceptualize opportunities to connect students with employer partners through experiential learning opportunities and other events, including career fairs, networking events, site visits, and guest speakers. Ensure calendaring of programs is in line with industry hiring timelines, and that timing maximizes students’ participation. Compile programming-related data and assessment to determine effectiveness of all employer-related programs. Seek input from stakeholders including Deans, Department Chairs, Directors, Faculty, Development, and students to identify specific organizations and individuals to establish and maintain relationships to increase the number of experiential, networking, and employment opportunities available to students. Annually assess effectiveness and updates plan.

 

Provide individual and group career coaching to students and alumni/ae regarding career planning and leadership development, employment/internship search, and graduate or professional school opportunities. Provide industry-specific coaching to students and alumni.

 

Educate and prepare students on the specifics of their job/internship search strategy, including document review, networking techniques, interview prep, and salary negotiation.

 

The Career Coach positions are responsible for supporting the students and engaging in programs for all regional campus students of Ohio University. Distance technology is available between campuses. These positions while reporting to regional campuses collaborate with the Career Learning and Development Center (CLDC) at Ohio University for programs, resources and assessment. These positions will work with various staff members from the CLDC especially the Associate Director for Career Development Integration.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling or related field.
  • A minimum 1 year of experience in academic or career advising is required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills as well as strong organizational skills and demonstrated initiative. Ability to use and interpret career inventory and/or personality tools.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in counseling or related field.
  • Experience in career coaching or counseling in a higher education setting preferred.

 

Pay Rate

Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Minimum salary $40,000. Employees also enjoy a generous benefits package including health benefits, paid time off, and education benefits for employees and eligible dependents.
