CAD scientist position as an Associate
The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine Abboud Cardiovascular Research Center at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics is recruiting a full-time scientist for a position as an Associate for a one-year appointment. Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent and be authorized to work in the U.S.
The successful candidate will have had hands-on experience in the cardiovascular animal physiology, in particular in studying vascular reactivity by wire myograph, animal colonies maintenance, animal handling and drug injections (IP, IM, SC), rat/mice mini-pump insertion, experience with tail-cuff machine use and measurement, tissues and blood collection. Candidates must also be experienced in studying mitochondrial function in vascular endothelium and smooth muscle cells and specifically adept at the following molecular biology and physiological techniques: mitochondrial isolation from endothelium and smooth muscle cells, measurements of mitochondrial respiration using the oxygraph and the Seahorse analyzer and Electron Transport Chain Complexes (I-V) activity assessment. Moreover, experience with Western blots, DNA and RNA extraction and processing, PCR, cell/tissue Transfection, cell/tissue transduction with adenoviruses, plasmid preparation, immunoprecipitation and Immunohistochemistry is desired. The applicant must be well published in high impact journals and be capable of successfully and independently writing grant applications. Moreover, experience in isolation of small arteries from human tissue is desired.
