Executive Director of Development, Life Sciences, UCLA College

As the Executive Director of Development, you will serve as an eminent fundraising partner to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for College Development and the Dean to meet the established goals and objectives that reflect the academic priorities of UCLA College’s Division of Life Sciences. You will plan and implement a comprehensive development program and successfully lead your team in developing strategies to identify and cultivate individual prospects and formulate specific solicitations of prospective donors for major gifts. You will maintain active awareness of individuals in the prospect pool at various stages of identification, cultivation and solicitation and strategically plan, prepare for and participate in sophisticated major gift solicitations. In addition, as the Executive Director, you will provide advice and counsel to deans, in collaboration with other members of the Division of Life Sciences, and will establish and maintain an effective high-level volunteer structure designed to provide community linkage to development programs.
As an ideal candidate, you will have seven or more years of progressive responsibility and experience as a professional development officer or similar experience in a nonprofit, membership/volunteer-driven or related environment. You will have expert knowledge of the principles and practices of major gift fundraising in a major research university or institution of equivalent complexity. You will have a demonstrated ability to conceptualize and implement a comprehensive development or similar program of comparable size and complexity including the ability to envision and articulate future direction combined with the passion and drive to achieve the aspirations of the Division of Life Sciences. You will have strong experience in soliciting high-level major gifts or solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity. You will be a thoughtful leader with excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and a keen understanding of how to effectively work with a wide variety of internal and external constituents. Strong strategic thinking skills aligned with the ability to implement and follow through are a must for this role.
