Head Librarian, User Experience and Digital Resources

As the head librarian, you will provide direction to staff in technical services, cataloging, acquisitions/collections, and serials while providing strategic direction to the access services department and assessing the budget. In this position, you will work with the senior director and other head librarians to assess library technology and collections needs and will develop procedures and processes to enhance the department. As the head librarian, you will lead the implementation of digital solutions to meet the requirements of library users and serve as a point-of-contact for SCAD Lacoste to ensure regular maintenance of their collections.

In this position, you will assess and implement the library’s database and resource acquisitions, supervise the administration of various online platforms, oversee assessments of current collections, and supervise database integration and access systems to ensure uninterrupted access. You may be required to perform other duties as they are assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program
  • 2-4 years supervisory and management experience
  • 5 years experience in technical services


Preferred Qualifications:

  • UX coursework, certificate and/or professional experience
  • Undergraduate or additional graduate degree in a subject taught at SCAD
  • Demonstrated skill in project management with knowledge of current trends and new developments in technical services and digital library initiatives
  • Strong working knowledge of library management and information systems
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams


Travel Required: Less than 10%

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
