Production Shop Manager

As the production shop manager, you will be vital in producing cutting-edge and world-renowned programming for SFLM. This position collaborates with the assistant technical director to lead and instruct practicum students and work-study students in the execution of design elements for all SFLM productions in a timely manner while maintaining a safe and secure work environment. You will ensure appropriate maintenance for all shop equipment and materials, coordinate with the production technical director for the purchase and delivery of materials and design elements for productions, and manage the recruitment, scheduling, and supervision of shop employees.

As the shop manager, you will develop the safety manual and certification process and shop policies as needed, advise practicum students and work-study students on fabrication processes for projects, and collaborate with other senior staff to ensure those involved in productions and events are following OSHA and SCAD policies. You will execute training for shop personnel while managing and documenting shop inventory. Additionally, you will manage shop inventory and oversee/supervise student checkout of SFLM resources

Minimum Qualifications:   
  • Bachelor’s degree in entertainment design or technology
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience and knowledge and experience in the safe and efficient operation of tools and must possess finishing skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and CAD software
  • Superb attention to detail, quality problem-solving, strong work ethic, high standards in quality of work
  • Commitment to workplace safety protocols and standards with the ability to lead a professional shop environment, demonstrating excellent management skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • ETCP rigging or equivalent certification
  • OSHA 10-hour certification

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:
  • Must have or be able to obtain a current class “C” Georgia driver’s license

Travel Required: Less than 10%

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other work days and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
