Northern Michigan University is located in the city of Marquette on the spectacular shores of Lake Superior in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The University resides upon the ancestral homelands of The Anishinaabe Three Fires Confederacy Nation. NMU is a dynamic four-year, public, comprehensive university that has grown its reputation based on its award-winning leadership programs, cutting-edge technology initiatives, and nationally recognized academic programs. Northern Michigan University has a population of about 7,200 undergraduate and graduate students. It offers 194-degree programs, including 36 graduate programs. NMU is one of three Michigan public universities to also serve the community college role for its region.
NMU’s 360-acre campus features 52 facilities, including the John X. Jamrich Instructional Building, Seaborg Science Complex, a state-of-the-art venue with more than two dozen laboratories, and recently renovated Thomas Fine Arts and Art and Design buildings. NMU's campus also houses a university theater, an award- winning library, a newly renovated Northern Center, a Museum, and a three-structure sports and recreation complex of which one is the Superior Dome, the world's largest wooden dome. The University also features three public broadcasting stations, WNMU-TV, WNMU-FM and student radio WUPX, which greatly enhance the region’s news, educational and cultural programming.
More than 75 percent of NMU's 300-plus full-time faculty members have doctorates or the terminal degree in their fields. A hallmark of the NMU experience is that full-time faculty members teach at all levels – freshmen through graduate. NMU’s 1,100 employees view helping students succeed as not only a university priority, but also a personal goal.
Reporting directly to the newly-appointed President, the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs serves as the University’s chief academic officer and is responsible for ensuring excellence and innovation across NMU’s academic programs. The Provost will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students across the University to develop programs that will strengthen the University’s academic reputation as a leading institution of higher education and research (a more complete profile is available at www.nmu.edu).
While applications and nominations will be accepted until a new Provost is selected, interested parties are encouraged to submit their materials to our consultant at the address below by October 15th for full consideration. Application materials must include a current CV, diversity statement, and letter of interest.
