Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment (LPSOE) in Electronic Music

University of California, San Diego

The Department of Music at the University of California San Diego (music.ucsd.edu) invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor in the area of Electronic Music to begin July 1, 2019. This UC faculty position is formally titled “Lecturer with Potential for Security of Employment (LPSOE),” and it parallels that of the research-focused series but with emphasis upon excellence in teaching and other instruction-related activities. Individuals in the position are expected to provide outstanding teaching and educational leadership, and to engage in professional activity and service related to the pedagogical mission of the department and university. This appointment confers membership in the Academic Senate, and, contingent upon promotion, tenure-paralleling security of employment.

Candidates will be favored who have extensive and varied technical, creative, and educational experience. Candidates should have either a completed M.F.A., D.M.A., or Ph.D., or exceptional professional achievement and activity. The Department especially seeks candidates who demonstrate strong or potential accomplishments in areas contributing to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

The successful candidate will be asked to teach a range of undergraduate courses in our innovative Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts Major (ICAM), to supervise the creative projects of our undergraduate students, and, ideally, to teach MA and PhD students in Computer Music. An ability to teach recording studio techniques is required. Other possible courses include Electronic Music Production and Composition, courses focused on Computer Music and Music Programming, and Musical Acoustics and Psychoacoustics. The Department is also open to new course proposals in areas such as Sound Design, Musical Algorithms, and Electronic Music Cultures.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales.

Review of applications will begin October 15, 2018 and will continue until the position is filled.

To apply, candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, documentation of teaching and professional excellence (e.g., links to instructional materials, summaries of teaching evaluations, and/or examples of professional work), and a personal statement that outlines one's teaching philosophy and past or potential contributions to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion (see http://facultydiversity.ucsd.edu).

All materials should be submitted electronically via UCSD's AP On-Line RECRUIT at https://apol-recruit.ucsd.edu/apply/JPF01811.
