The Kogod School of Business at American University (Kogod or the School) seeks a dynamic, collaborative, and strategic leader to serve as the inaugural Executive Director of Career, Alumni, and Industry Engagement (Executive Director or ED). This is a compelling opportunity for an entrepreneurial leader to amplify Kogod’s trajectory of excellence in business education and to drive the strategy for industry and alumni engagement, and successful career outcomes for a growing, diverse student population. Kogod School of Business, situated in the nation’s capital, holds a distinctive place in business education. Focusing specifically on building a more sustainable world through business, Kogod’s programs are designed to address the world’s most pressing problems at the nexus of business, government, and society. The Executive Director will join Kogod during a period of significant forward momentum. Recent years have included the addition of several signature experiential learning initiatives, including Kogod in Practice, a revised MBA, and strengths within specialty master’s programs including sustainability management. Under the leadership of Dean David Marchick, the School is experiencing a renewed energy which the Executive Director will harness in shaping the path for an enhanced focus on corporate and industry relations and elevating Kogod’s trajectory toward being a leader in business education in a competitive global market.
Reporting to the Dean, the Executive Director will be a key driver in achieving Kogod’s aspiration to be the leading business school that trains future leaders to address the challenges that face the global economy, to attract a diverse student body, and enhance student career outcomes. As a member of the Kogod leadership team, the Executive Director will drive the College’s external engagement strategy, build and strengthen external partnerships, and ultimately amplify the quantity and breadth of career and experiential opportunities that are available to students.
The Executive Director will have the opportunity to join an exceptional team with a history of collaborative leadership in the context of renewed energy for external engagement under the leadership of Dean Marchick. The Executive Director will bring a record of successful external and internal engagement and collaborative leadership and management skills. They will also possess superior communication skills, political aptitude, entrepreneurial energy, and the capacity to represent Kogod to local, national, and international organizations.
Minimum qualifications include a track record of success in leadership focused on corporate engagement (preferably in a business school), business development, career services, or an equivalent of education and experience. An earned master’s degree or equivalent along with a minimum of ten years of relevant experience are required.
