Washington University in St. Louis, one of the nation’s premier institutions of higher education, seeks a strategic, creative, collaborative, and driven leader to serve as Executive Director of Professional Education in the School of Engineering & Applied Science (SEAS). This is an exceptional opportunity for an entrepreneurial and market savvy leader to provide a compelling vision for the future of the Henry Edwin Sever Institute and the Technology Leadership Center, and to champion the value of professional education within SEAS and beyond. The professional education arm is integral to SEAS operations, and the next Executive Director will harness the strengths of existing programs while seeking new opportunities for growth. St. Louis has emerged as high-tech hub of innovation and this is an outstanding opportunity to develop new partnerships and programs locally as well as nationally. The Executive Director will work collaboratively with the School’s leadership, faculty, and staff to ensure programs are innovative and relevant for industry partners and professional engineers.

Among the nation’s highest ranked engineering schools, the School of Engineering & Applied Science plays a vital role within Washington University, the city of St. Louis, and the nation. It has become a global player, collaborating across disciplines to address pressing challenges in medicine and health, energy and the environment, entrepreneurship, and security. Innovative partnerships with academia and industry—across disciplines and across borders—will ensure that Washington University and SEAS are poised to help solve the greatest challenges of this century.

Reporting to the dean, the Executive Director (ED) will be responsible for the management of professional education, which includes full-time and part-time Master’s degrees and certificates within the Henry Edwin Sever Institute, and the short-course non-degree training for individuals and companies housed in the Technology & Leadership Center (TLC). The next Executive Director will have the opportunity to shape and execute a strategic vision for delivering professional education within St. Louis, as well as the national marketplace. The ED will develop a financially sustainable business model, identify and increase revenue opportunities, and provide support to faculty and staff to achieve these goals. The ideal candidate will have a record of creative and innovative program leadership experience, preferably in a professional or continuing education environment; demonstrated achievement in operations management; and the capacity to work within the complexities of an academic unit in a major university. A master’s degree from an accredited institution is required and a Ph.D. is preferred.
