Carleton College seeks a creative, strategic, and values-driven leader to serve as its next Vice President and Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid. This highly visible role offers the unique opportunity to build upon Carleton’s strong and steady record of enrollment success by further elevating the College’s visibility to exceptionally talented prospective students from a wide range of backgrounds and by honing the ways in which Carleton competes for their attention in an intensely competitive market.

Founded as a preparatory school in 1866 and reorganized as a college four years later, Carleton College is one of the nation’s most prestigious and successful liberal arts colleges. Located in historic Northfield, Minnesota – just 40 miles from the twin cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul – Carleton boasts an outstanding faculty, intelligent and engaged students, and a passionate alumni body. The College is consistently listed among the top ten liberal arts colleges in various national surveys, including a number one ranking for undergraduate teaching.

In addition to providing strategic direction, organizational leadership, and professional mentorship to a highly dedicated current staff of 26 in the Offices of Admissions and Student Financial Services, the Vice President will report to President Steven G. Poskanzer and serve as a key member of his cabinet. The Vice President will also have the unusual opportunity to engage directly with the Board of Trustees, alumni, and corporate and foundation leaders alongside President Poskanzer as part of the $125M capital campaign, for which need-based financial aid is the centerpiece. The Vice President serves as a key figure on Carleton’s campus and beyond, and the responsibility this individual will carry for maintaining the spirt of fun, creativity, and intellectual rigor that characterizes the College is significant.

The ideal candidate will be a data-driven, passionate advocate for liberal arts education, willing to embrace the particular qualities and experiences that have made Carleton a distinctive community, and personally and professionally committed to the work of enhancing the diversity and inclusivity of a campus.
