TENURE-TRACK POSITION IN ANALYTICAL OR PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY

The Keck Science Department seeks to hire a tenure-track teacher-scholar who will teach in an area of analytical chemistry and/or physical chemistry, broadly defined, and who will carry out a student-centered undergraduate research program in an area that complements our already-existing programs.

We seek a chemist with a clear capacity for and dedication to excellence in teaching. Specifically, this position will participate in our general chemistry and advanced chemistry laboratory (our analytical and physical chemistry laboratory) sequences. There are also opportunities to design and teach both upper-level electives and courses for non-science majors. We seek a chemist who will develop a vibrant research program that fully engages undergraduate students, and who possesses a demonstrated commitment to our colleges’ (Pitzer and Scripps) goal of improving higher education for underrepresented students.  The appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level and will begin on July 1, 2024. A Ph.D. in a chemistry-related field and a record of scholarly publication are required. Postdoctoral experience is preferred.

The Department, which houses the biology, chemistry, physics, neuroscience, and environmental science faculty for Pitzer and Scripps Colleges (two of the five undergraduate Claremont Colleges), offers innovative and interdisciplinary programs in the natural sciences. The Department supports faculty success through mentorship, opportunities for professional development, and regular sabbaticals. Faculty of the Keck Science Department are part of the rich intellectual environment of the Claremont Colleges consortium and benefit from close proximity to major research universities in the Southern California region, enabling collaboration both within and outside the department. The Department will open its new state-of-the-art science facility, the Nucleus, in Fall 2024. The salary for this position will range $90,000-98,500 and will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
