Hunter College seeks an Academic Advising Specialist with expertise in technology and a commitment to the delivery of quality academic advising services.
The Academic Advising Specialist will report to the Chair of the Computer Science Department, and will support the creation of a well-coordinated Advising Network, which will integrate advising services in student affairs with pre-professional advising, academic tutoring services in our Silverstein Student Success Center, departmental advising, and internship support available through the Technology Talent Pipeline (TTP) and other programs. .

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the duties may include but are not limited to the following:
The Academic Advising Specialist will develop career preparation workshops and information sessions as well as co-curricular opportunities in conjunction with advising partners throughout the college.
The Academic Advising Specialist will monitor and assess a designated cohort of students majoring in Computer Science to monitor and train.
The Specialist must form strong ties with the dedicated academic advisor in the Office of Advising Services and other advisors in the Computer Science Department in order to coordinate services and share information.
S/he will regularly track and analyze on Program progress and outcomes to ensure programs success.
The Specialist will assist Chair and CUNY 2x team to execute the strategic vision of the program, including planning and implementing special projects/events, creating presentations, doing outreach to stakeholders.
S/he will take lead on data collection for the Chair and CUNY 2x team and assist with assessment, research, reports, and archiving.
Also, the Specialist will maintain data integrity and confidentiality.

Bachelor’s degree and four years’ related experience required.
Degree or minor in computer science preferred
2 years tech-related professional experience, either in a practical role or in recruitment highly desirable

- Administers an academic advising center or unit.
- Collaborates with other academic and administrative offices to maintain a comprehensive academic advisement program
- Ensures students are provided with consistent, accurate, and prompt advising services, coordinating with academic departments
- Works with students to resolve academic issues, providing information and/or referral
- Develops orientation programs to engage and retain students and instructs students, faculty and staff on use of advising technologies
- Conducts assessments to strengthen advisement programs
- Organizes and facilitates training for faculty advisors
- Develops print and online communication materials
- May supervise office operations and budget
- Performs related duties as assigned.
