Associate Vice Chancellor, IT Services and Chief Information Officer

The University of California Los Angeles seeks nominations and applications for the position of Associate Vice Chancellor of IT Services and Chief Information Officer. The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is a public research university and land-grant institution in the Westwood district of Los Angeles, United States. It became the Southern Branch of the University of California in 1919, making it the second-oldest undergraduate campus of the ten-campus University of California system. UCLA enrolls about 31,000 undergraduate and 13,000 graduate students, and had 137,000 applicants for Fall 2018, including transfer applicants, the most applicants for any American university. UCLA’s diverse workforce includes more than 40,000 staff and academic employees.

Reporting to the Administrative Vice Chancellor, the AVC, IT Services and CIO is the senior-most technology officer of UCLA, responsible for providing strategic vision and operational leadership to IT Services and its partner IT organizations campus-wide.  The AVC, IT Services and CIO role is newly constituted, and accountable for technology across the University in partnership with academic, research, and administrative organizations.

The Associate Vice Chancellor, Information Technology Services is responsible for the delivery of a full spectrum of information technology products and services to the UCLA campus enterprise, including application services, infrastructure services, networking and communication services, enterprise systems project management, information security, middleware and data warehouse services. This individual will direct the development of cost effective, secure IT strategies and solutions that support the business needs of the University. The CIO will collaborate with IT leadership across the campus including academic technology leadership, the Business Transformation Office, UCLA Health, IT Services, and other key functional units.

This individual should have experience leading a large-scale, cross functional information technology organization encompassing application development, networking, data centers, technical support services, middleware, information security, voice services and supporting administrative functions. The successful candidate will have the ability to articulate a vision for technology for the UCLA enterprise; have demonstrated success leading a distributed IT organization; and the ability to unify various IT stakeholders around a common vision for technology.

UCLA will welcome a collaborative and customer service focused CIO who can effectively build consensus across and within a multi-stakeholder IT environment. This individual will have demonstrated strong relationship-building skills to foster a productive and positive culture among ITS and its campus partners, as well as a commitment to growing and developing staff within the ITS organization. The CIO is expected to establish UCLA as a leader in higher education technology at a global level.
