Chair, Business of Beauty and Fragrance

The chair of beauty and fragrance works with faculty on curriculum development, assessment activities, and policy/procedure requirements and implementation, including course schedules and facility use. The chair conducts classroom observations and annual faculty performance evaluations and reviews student evaluations, while also ensuring mentoring and faculty development opportunities. In this role you will foster a positive and cohesive environment through mutual respect and collaboration. This position calls for the review of service and professional development and a review of contributions to the department’s goals while directing, coordinating, and evaluating the department.

As the chair, you will make decisions on student academic matters, assist in the recruitment of students, review graduate student applications, and oversee the placement of students in internships and careers. The chair works with the dean to provide professional development opportunities for professors and strives to continuously earn recognition for the school’s achievements through industry collaborations, student awards and competitions, social media, and signature events.

Additionally, the chair of beauty and fragrance will prepare quarterly reports, monitor department data, evaluate purchase and travel requests, and must serve as the front-line ambassador for the department.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Terminal degree in discipline or relevant field general
  • At least five years of industry experience
  • Leadership and supervisory experience in academics or professional experience
  • Distinguished record of scholarship, teaching, and/or professional expertise
  • Career as a faculty member including a model leadership record
  • Ability to transform vision into implementation
  • Commitment to teaching and learning
  • Thorough understanding of curriculum development and utilization of assessment to improve student learning
  • Judgement to make good academic decisions regarding students
  • Willingness to collaborate
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills in academia preferred

Travel required: Less than 10%
