Departmental Administrative Assistant

As an administrative assistant, you will support the design management department, its faculty, and staff with academic projects and other university initiatives, as well as compose, type, organize, and file regular correspondence. Daily, you will greet visitors and direct them to their appropriate area or person, work with academic operations managers to ensure the department meets its deadline and requirements, and maintain departmental leadership calendars and schedules. Among other duties, you will work closely with all units of the university (e.g., admission, student success, registrar, career and alumni success, SCADpro) and participate in scheduled activities for SCAD Days and other events as needed. You will also maintain office inventory and arrange for equipment maintenance.

The successful candidate demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and exhibits a commitment to honesty, discipline, integrity, and confidentiality. An eye for detail and accuracy is essential, and the candidate should possess strong project- and people-management abilities. Always punctual and professional, the candidate is highly organized and responsive, and can manage the priorities of both departments with ease. The ability to thrive as both an individual and team-based contributor is also a must.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline
  • One to three years of successful work experience in an academic environment
  • Proficient with computers, Microsoft Office software suite (i.e., Word and Excel), and Banner or a similar database


Work Hours:The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
