Professor of Sound Design

SCAD seeks an experienced, full-time professor of sound design to join its prestigious faculty in historic Savannah, Ga. In this role, you will help the next generation of sound designers realize their creative and professional dreams.

Whether working in SCAD’s cutting-edge studios or recording audio in the field, SCAD sound design students amass technical expertise and refine their artistic style. Under the guidance of Academy Award- and Emmy Award-winning faculty, students record and design sound for film, television, animation, games, theater, and more. Through experiential and real-world learning, students also grow their knowledge of theory, practice, and professional aesthetics. As a professor of sound design, you will help lead this next generation of creative leaders using your advanced technical know-how in production mixing, on-set sound crews, equipment choice and workflow, and the dynamic relationship between production sound mixers and their teams on-set and in the field. You will also conduct thorough, thoughtful, and fair student evaluations; hold regular office hours, participate in department initiatives, and advise on the purchase of new equipment, and workflows, among other duties.

The successful candidate has a wealth of industry experience at the highest levels and extensive knowledge of cutting-edge equipment and recording gear. A thorough understanding of workflows and the connectivity between on-set sound and post-production (i.e., timecodes, metadata, sound reports, backups, etc.). is paramount. The candidate should be respectful and self-motivated, and able to thrive in ever-evolving environments and collaborative settings.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s or terminal degree in sound design, film, and video or closely related discipline OR equivalent professional experience the same fields
  • Proven success and effectiveness as an academic, creative, and/or industry leader
  • Ability to teach an introductory course in audio fundamentals, theory of sound and image, and basic Avid Pro Tools
