Professor of Fashion

SCAD seeks a full-time professor of fashion to join the internationally recognized fashion program and help tomorrow’s designers launch their careers. In this position, you will use your enthusiasm for mentoring exceptional students to teach the history of fashion as well as the technical skills necessary for students to hone their abilities. TheSCADfashion program has a strong partnership with several top brands, including Chanel, Dior,YSL, and more, who send representatives to work withSCADstudents. From these professional collaborations to the annualSCADFASHIONshows that feature curated undergraduate and graduate work for star-studded audiences, theSCADfashion program is also the runway from which tomorrow’s designers launch their careers.

The successful candidate has extensive experience in fashion design, including womenswear, menswear, knitwear, contemporary, and denim, among others. Strong technical sewing, flat pattern cutting, and draping skills are vital to this role, as is knowledge of the manufacturing process. The candidate should be proficient in concept development and innovation, from 2D to 3D, and have a broad knowledge of collection development, textiles, and other materials used in creating a final product.

The professor delivers courses at the highest quality, demonstrates model leadership, fosters a positive learning environment, fulfills departmental duties and contributes to the university’s mission and strategic goals. In addition to other duties and responsibilities required in the faculty handbook and the employment agreement, a professor teaches courses/contact hours as determined by their credentials, university needs and a signed employment agreement. The university, in its sole discretion, may assign the professor to a teaching or non-teaching position as stipulated in the employment agreement.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Terminal degree or its equivalent in fashion or related discipline
- University-level teaching experience preferred
- Proficient with Zoom and fashion design software such as CLO and CAD
- Ability to be credentialed according to SACS guidelines and/or justified to teach
