President

The Board of Trustees of Elizabethtown College invites nominations for and expressions of interest in the position of President.

Founded 120 years ago with the motto to “Educate for Service,” Elizabethtown College has held true to its values and commitment to peace, non-violence, social justice and human dignity. A liberal arts college with select professional and master’s programs, located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Elizabethtown College has continually centered its mission and excellent academic programs on the holistic development of students while preparing them for lives of leadership and service as citizens of the world. The college sustains an enrollment of approximately 1,700 students, with another approximately 700 undergraduate and graduate students in the School for Continuing and Professional Studies, on a beautiful 204-acre campus, with 129 full-time faculty members, and a diverse array of programs founded on the liberal arts tradition.

The college’s historical connection to the Church of the Brethren is evident in programs and centers including the internationally renowned Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies while new programs in health sciences, engineering, data science and interdisciplinary topics anticipate the changing nature of work and service. More information about the college may be found at www.etown.edu.

Over the last decade, Elizabethtown College has positioned itself to succeed in a competitive environment by investing in its strengths and in academic excellence. Its talented faculty are engaged, excited about the future, and working collaboratively to strengthen curriculum and pedagogy to embrace the needs of current and future generations of students. The campus is in the midst of implementing its 2017-20 Strategic Plan, its capital campaign of $60 million is ahead of pace, and construction of a new $24 million sports, fitness and well-being center is underway.

This is an ideal moment for a talented, energetic, visionary president to take the reins and provide the leadership and necessary management for the next phase in the college’s history.

Elizabethtown College seeks a visionary leader who personifies the institution’s motto to educate for service and who can inspire the entire community to reach new heights. It is essential that the next president demonstrate significant experience at the senior level of a substantially complex educational institution, business or nonprofit organization along with proven leadership ability and managerial success.  They must demonstrate the skill to lead successfully in a shared governance environment, financial and marketing savvy, genuine interest in people, the ability to promote and broaden a culture of diversity and inclusion, enthusiasm for fundraising, and the talent and ability to balance change leadership with risk management.

Nominations and expressions of interest are welcome. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. For fullest consideration, applicant materials should be received by September 10, 2018. Candidates should provide a curriculum vitae, a letter of application that addresses the opportunities and expectations for leadership and the preferred qualifications and characteristics described in the Leadership Profile, and the names and contact information of five references. References will not be contacted without prior knowledge and approval of the candidates. These materials should be sent electronically to Elizabethtown College’s consultants Lucy Leske, Concetta Stewart Ph.D., and Christine Pendleton at EtownPres@wittkieffer.com.

As an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer, Elizabethtown College

is seeking candidates who will enhance the diversity of its faculty, staff, and administration.
