Carpenter/Electrician

As a carpenter/electrician you will be responsible for participating in the supervision of students in the latest technical applications in set and lighting design, as well as construction and execution; this includes construction, installation, circuiting, patching, and troubleshooting, as directed by the production technical director. You will act as a liaison between practicum students assigned to the production scene shop and production technical director while assisting the production technical director and assistant technical director in scheduling. Helping the shop manager and assistant technical director with maintaining all tools and equipment along with sourcing all workshop inventory is an essential duty of this position.

The carpenter/electrician will aid in the development and execution of the training and certification program, in coordination with the production technical director and assistant technical director. The carpenter/electrician will interpret and execute construction schematics and light plots for all School of Film and Acting productions and assist in installation and removal of production assets at various SCAD properties.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in theater technology, technical theater, or equivalent professional experience
  • Portfolio evidence of high-level carpentry and lighting proficiency for the performing arts
  • Experience with power tools and workforce safety protocols
  • Knowledge of entertainment industry standard practices in carpentry and lighting
  • Experience in driving a 16-foot or 24-foot box truck daily

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with audio, video, and special effects equipment
  • Proficiency with CAD drafting desired
  • ETCP rigging certification or equivalent desired

Certificates, licenses, and registrations: Driver’s license

Travel Required: Less than 10%

Work Hours:The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
