Iowa State University of Science and Technology (www.iastate.edu), one of the nation’s most student-centric leading research universities, invites nominations and applications for the position of dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (www.las.iastate.edu). Iowa State serves approximately 30,000 students and is located in Ames, Iowa, a college town consistently ranked for its high quality of living.

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is an academic community of 5,800 undergraduate and 1,050 graduate students, 590 faculty, and 270 staff working in 21 academic departments, one professional school, and 25 cross-disciplinary and interdepartmental programs. Major areas of the college include biological and physical sciences, arts and humanities, mathematical and computational sciences, social sciences, and communications. The college’s faculty and scientific staff attracted over $37 million in research grants and contracts in FY 2022.

The dean promotes academic excellence, defines and articulates a compelling vision, develops strategies and initiatives to achieve that vision, engages key internal and external constituencies, and manages and directs the college’s $180 million endowment.

Candidates must have an earned degree and distinguished accomplishments commensurate with appointment as a tenured full professor in one of the college’s departments or school; a track record of successful leadership experience; an understanding of the college’s broad range of scholarship in research, teaching, professional practice, and outreach; and a commitment to student, faculty, and staff success. Candidates are further expected to have fiscal and administrative experience in a complex organization and the skills necessary to be a strong and effective fundraiser.
