Data Manager/Analyst (Research Assistant 2)


The Data Manager/Analyst (Research Assistant 2) will carry out analysis protocols in accordance with research standards and responsibilities essential to the operation of the University of Connecticut School of Social Work Performance Improvement Center (PIC), the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Research Division (RD), and the Evaluation, Quality Management and Improvement (EQMI) Division. The Data Manager/Analyst will be responsible for receiving, cleaning, analyzing, and reporting data for one or more grant or contract-funded projects.


  1. Assist in developing and implementing data transfer and analysis protocols; creating data collection tools; assisting with data entry as required.
  2. Manage data sets, such as merging, recoding, and cleaning data using statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R, STATA), and ensure that the data is ready for analysis.
  3. Participate in conducting data analysis and program performance assessments.
  4. Identify problem areas for investigation, reporting, and consultation purposes.
  5. Maintain complete and accurate documentation of all data collection, data entry, and data analysis activities.
  6. Maintain security of project data.
  7. Liaise with grant/contract staff, as directed.
  8. Assist in the preparation of written products for multiple audiences including academic manuscripts, dashboards, or other data reporting as needed.
  9. Other project-related responsibilities, as directed.


  1. Bachelor's degree and two to three years of post-degree experience, OR a Master's degree and up to one year of post-degree experience. 
  2. Evidence of skill in statistical programming, data/statistical analysis, and interpreting findings using statistical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R, STATA) as well as spreadsheet applications.
  3. Evidence of skill with online database and information system technologies (e.g. Qualtrics, REDCap, Microsoft Access, etc.).
  4. Experience in one or more of the following: SQL, Visual basic, or Python programming language.
  5. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.
  6. Evidence of strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects at once, respond to tight timelines, pay attention to detail, and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  7. Evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills.


  1. Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems/technology or closely related field and up to one year of post-degree experience, OR Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems/technology or closely related field and two to three years of post-degree experience.
  2. Knowledge about regulations and the ability to maintain the confidentiality of subjects and information obtained.
  3. Knowledge of the design of research studies and data collection procedures.
  4. Ability to understand and utilize scientific terminology and research theory.
  5. Experience in preparing high-quality data analysis reports.
  6. Experience in generating data dashboards.
  7. Experience with quality improvement methods.
  8. Experience with using data visualization techniques to facilitate insights from the data collected for internal and external stakeholders.
  9. An understanding of CT’s adult behavioral health, children’s mental health, and/or child welfare systems.
  10. Experience with using advanced statistical analysis.


These are full-time, end-date positions subject to renewal based on funding and satisfactory performance. Compensation will be based on experience and will range from $55,000 to $65,000 annually (full-time equivalent).
