Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development

Serving as a key member of the Dean’s leadership team, provide executive leadership over school-wide administration of faculty appointments and promotions, including oversight of all applicable policies that govern faculty advancement and the associated structure of faculty administration. Key goals will be to facilitate recruitment, retention and advancement of an academic workforce that promotes excellence. The successful candidate will facilitate and oversee the creation and implementation of innovative programs for faculty orientation and career development, encouraging a culture of equity, excellence and discovery.

Essential Functions

Oversee faculty elections, faculty meetings, and compliance with school of medicine bylaws. (10%)
 

Oversee a process to collect, capture and report accurate faculty data. (10%)
 

Orient new faculty on policies, promotion, career advancement, faculty evaluation and professional development. (10%)
 

Participate in faculty counseling and grievance and appeals processes. (5%)
 

Ensure compliance with LCME standards applying to faculty governance and faculty professional development. (10%)
 

Serve as the primary liaison between School of Medicine, departments, and faculty, identifying the resources, priorities, and infrastructure necessary to advance faculty development efforts and opportunities. (15%)
 

Develop and continuously refine strategy for enhancing faculty engagement at the School of Medicine, designing systems to support well-being. (15%)
 

Assess, develop, and continuously improve programs for leadership training and faculty development, evaluating best practices and developing plans that scale across the School of Medicine and its education, research, and clinical care missions. (10%)
 

In conjunction with the Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, create an environment and programs to support BSOM’s DEI goals. (5%)
 

Oversee the office of Continuing Medical Education, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards. (10%)

Required Qualifications

  • M.D./D.O. or Ph.D./Ed.D. with academic and progressive administrative/leadership experience at Associate Professor or Professor level.
  • Knowledge of workplace opportunities and challenges in academic medicine, including professional development and promotion.
  • Effective communication skills; ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
  • Associate Professor level candidates must fulfill all the requirements above, along with
    at least 5 years’ experience as an Assistant Professor with an exemplary scholarly
    portfolio and supervisory experience.
  • Full Professor candidates must fulfill all the requirements of Associate Professor along
    with at least 5 years’ experience at the Associate Professor level with an exemplary
    scholarly portfolio and leadership experience.
