The Search

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte (the University) seeks a creative and collaborative academic leader for the position of Dean of the College of Arts + Architecture (the College). Reporting to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the dean will be chief executive and academic officer of one of North Carolina’s largest and most diverse arts and architecture programs, uniquely situated within a rapidly growing, civically engaged urban research university in the vibrant city of Charlotte.

A hub for arts and architecture education, research, and collaboration within the University and beyond the campus, the College encompasses a full range of disciplines, including architecture, art, graphic design, art history, dance, music, theatre, and urban design. The dean will be a respected leader who will advance the college’s academic mission, and a vision builder who fosters collaboration and innovation within the College and in partnership with colleagues across the campus and community. The dean will also be a visible leader in the arts and culture community of Charlotte, investing in local connections and continuing to build the College’s presence in the cultural life of the city.

The dean will collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and the professional community to express a unified and visible identity for the College of Arts + Architecture; elevate research within the College; advance an excellent, diverse, and engaged community and faculty; develop new strategic interdisciplinary graduate programs; embrace and raise up the mission of student access and support; and manage and strengthen financial resources. The ideal candidate will have an energetic and collaborative leadership style that inspires faculty, students, and staff to develop a shared vision for the future. Candidates must have a record of scholarly achievement in research and/or practice commensurate with an appointment as a tenured full professor in the College of Arts + Architecture at the University.
