Director of Residential Renewal and Renovation

 

MIT Housing and Residential Services (HRS) in the Division of Student Life seeks a director of residential renewal and renovation to serve as a member of the senior leadership team and provide leadership, strategic planning, oversight, and supervision of residential construction and renovation projects, day-to-day repair and maintenance needs, and smaller program space upgrades. MIT residential facilities house a range of living environments and distinctive communities actively led by faculty heads of house and student house governments. The residences include over 2.8 million sq. ft. and approximately 6,000 bed spaces and apartments. MIT will be undertaking significant renewal projects in older buildings over the next several years.  

 

The director will ensure that all projects align with MIT and DSL standards, quality, customer service, and value to campus residents and the greater MIT community; collaborate with MIT Dining to support residential dining-related projects as needed; represent the interests of DSL and HRS during the planning process for all residential construction projects managed by MIT Campus Construction and serve as liaison to the Department of Facilities for capital renewal and repair and maintenance needs.  Will report to the senior associate dean for HRS.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Ten years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of architectural principles related to design, construction, and operations
  • Knowledge of construction and building systems (structural, life safety, mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems, etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents and blueprints  

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Progressive experience in capital project planning and management, strategic financial planning, and design/construction supervision
  • Experience working in higher education administration and campus housing


Some weekend and evening work may be required.
