ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT

Summary of Job Details:

UCSB is searching for a proactive, collaborative urban planning and/or capital planning professional to join the Capital and Physical Planning Office in the role of Associate Director of Capital Development.  The Office oversees planning and funding for all capital projects on campus including educational and research facilities, office, residential, retail, recreational, habitat restoration, and more.

 

The Associate Director of Capital Development is responsible for overseeing the planning, funding, and approvals for all capital development projects including State and non-State major projects, minor projects, and deferred maintenance. Activities include pre-design facility planning and programming and delivery of Detailed Project Programs (DPP) and feasibility studies for projects with budgets ranging from $1 million up to $200 million. Duties include drafting solicitations for professional services, engaging and directing consultants, and preparing and processing approval documents for capital projects, such as Project Planning Guides (PPG), Regents Items, and Chancellor's Delegated Authority approvals. Provides support and leadership in preparing the campus's annual Capital Financial Plan; the current 2022 Plan exceeds $3 billion over the next 6 years including new construction, renovation, seismic and deferred maintenance, and environmental restoration.  Responsibilities include working closely with senior faculty and Building Committee chairs to develop space plans and strategies for new major capital projects, and advising on campus landscape, bike paths, circulation, signage, and public art. Interfaces with Development Officers on donor-funded projects, providing advice and information that is instrumental for successful capital project fundraising. Collaborates with Real Estate Services and the Community Housing Authority on projects involving third-party developers, major leases, and purchases of land and facilities for campus use.

 

Required Qualifications

•   Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training

•   Expert knowledge / skills in all aspects of city planning, architecture, or other planning-related fields, including knowledge / skills in large-scale site planning

•   Expert written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including expert level political acumen and negotiation skills

•   Expert skills in building, maintaining and nurturing strong professional relationships to achieve short and long range organizational development goals

•   Expert analytical and project management skills

 

Preferred Qualifications

•   Master's degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, City Planning or other planning or environmental related field

•   7-9 years in closely related field

 

Special Conditions of Employment

•   Maintain a valid CA driver’s license, a clean DMV record and enrollment in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program

•   Form 700 Statement of Economic Interests Filer

•   Satisfactory conviction history background check

 

Hiring/Budgeted Salary or Hourly Range: The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $120,000-$160,000/yr.

Full Salary Range: $102,000-$214,800/yr. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
