Manager of Visitor and Museum Operations

The manager of visitor and museum operations will work with the director of museum programming and operations to manage daily operations including opening and closing of the museum, addressing visitor and staff needs, receiving deliveries, and coordinating immediate housekeeping or security needs while ensuring all policies and procedures are documented and shared regularly. In this position you will manage the ticketing, admissions, and retail operating systems, as well as performing sales activities including cash management, EOD reports, cash reconciliation, and keeping organized financial data for applicable spaces. You will assist in planning programs, internal communication, and evaluations.

As manager of the docent program, you will be responsible for recruiting, hiring, and training motivated and enthusiastic student staff members who are both knowledgeable and engaging about the museum and its exhibitions. An aspect of this position includes coordinating docent-led tours of the museum. Additional responsibilities in this program extend to scheduling, supervision, placement in galleries and other spaces, adherence to policies, and establishing and setting behavioral standards for the docent role.

The manager of visitor and museum operations will engage in conversation with visitors in a positive manner, providing additional information about SCAD and the surrounding area. Daily tasks include overseeing the general operation of the museum and events, managing building access, initiating work orders, liaising with SCAD security to communicate and set coverage expectations, maintaining tidiness in all spaces, and providing support to fellow staff members.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • B.A. or B.F.A.
  • Customer service skills
  • Project management experience with a background in planning, prioritization, and execution of projects
  • Demonstrates time-management skills and the ability to multitask
  • Proficient with POS/inventory control software and hardware to provide support to staff
  • Communication and interpersonal skills and fluidity to work well with staff, students, the public, and others outside the organization
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision
