DIRECTOR - RESIDENTIAL AND HOSPITALITY SERVICES

Salary: $95,000 + DOE

Under direction of the Executive Director/Associate Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs, provide leadership, planning and management for Residential and Hospitality Services, one of five major units in Student Housing and Dining Services. Responsibilities include guest and space planning for a major self-supporting auxiliary with revenues over $110M annually, $150+M debt service and $250+M in planned capital projects. Manage daily operations of staff providing budget and rate setting for conference housing, lease and contract offers, room/apartment assignments, student accounts, and special accommodations/accessible housing needs for full service enterprise providing over 7000 beds in UC owned and operated buildings. Oversight of all current and future on­ campus Public Private Partnership (P3) agreements providing more than 6000 beds. Provide direct supervision to three management personnel and contribute to long-range strategic planning for the department and overall coordination of all Student Housing and Dining Services operations including managing public relations and representing department on various Student Affairs and campus-wide committees.  

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Five or more years of management experience within business administration, residential and/or hospitality services, or a related field. 

• Progressively responsible experience within a residential, 

hospitality or business environment requiring supervision, resource management, policy development, strategic planning, qualitative analysis and process evaluation. 

• Experience with managing complex budgets and preparing financial analysis for an auxiliary operation. 

• Management experience in planning and implementing process improvements to enhance work processes and systems. 

• Evidence of leadership, conflict resolution and supervisory skills, with an ability to support development of career staff as well as student employees and students leaders. 

• Skill to build effective bridges and collaborative 

relationships. A collaborative management style aligned with the ability to delegate and to be decisive. 

• Commitment to customer service, quality control and high quality standards for residential facilities. 

• Experience to direct the operations of a large unit, interact effectively with students, families of students, faculty, staff, university management, industry professionals and UC system-wide professionals. 

• Degree in business administration or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

• Oral and written communication skills and a professional presence with the ability to represent Student Housing and Dining Service and the University both internally and externally.  

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Interpersonal and cultural competence skills to effectively 

communicate with and support a wide variety of people of diverse backgrounds, including an understanding and respect for cultural, ethnic and individual differences. 

• Computer skills to manage various computer systems (i.e. computerized financial system, Outlook, Word, Power Point, Publisher, Excel, etc).
